Ovarian Malignancy Review
Of all gynecologic cancer deaths, ovarian cancer accounts for over 50%. The risk of death from ovarian cancer is 1-2%. Ovarian cancer is more common in women from northern European and North American nations than from Asian or developing nations. Risk factors include:
- Infertility
- Low parity
- Use of perineal talc
- High fat diets
- Lactose intolerance
- Previous breast or colon cancer
- A family history of ovarian cancer

Unfortunately, over 2/3 of patients diagnosed with ovarian cancer have intraperitoneal metastases at the time of diagnosis. The most common malignant ovarian epithelial cancers are:
- Serous (40-50%)
- Endometrial (15-25%)
- Mucinous (6-16%)
- Clear cell (5-11%).
